At the age of eight, Paul Menard won the Briggs Junior Class championship in Wisconson. He quickly moved up in the series and eventually shifted his focus to ice racing, a sport which he continues to enjoy in his spare time.

Menard moved on to the ARCA ReMax Challenge series and finished ninth in points in his rookie year. Other series he raced in include SCCA Trans-Am, Grand-Am Cup, and the NASCAR Southwest Series. He got his first taste of NASCAR in 2003 when he ran Cup, Busch and Truck races for Andy Petree Racing.

In 2006 Menard scored his first NASCAR Cup top-ten driving for Dale Earnhardt, Inc. He raced seven races that year in preparation for his first full season in the NASCAR Cup Series- 2007. He won his first Busch Series race in 2006 as well.
