In Truex's first year in Nextel Cup racing, he posted a best finish of second in the final race at Homestead, Miami. Fans knew that a win was coming. And they were right- in just his second full year in Nextel Cup, Martin Truex Jr now has a win under his belt.
Truex grew up with racing, cheering his father on as he raced Modifieds across the northeastern United States. By the time Truex Jr. was ten years old, he was building and racing his own go-karts.
Beginning his NASCAR career in the Busch North Series turned out to be a good move for Truex, who finished 12th in points in his rookie year and won his first race, at New Hampshire International Speedway, in his eighth start. He made his Busch Series debut in 2002 and dominated the Busch Series entirely in 2004 and 2005, winning the championship both years.
