Of course the nephew of four-time Indy 500 winner Rick Mears was born to race. Casey Mears’ father, Roger Mears, was also an IndyCar driver. He is one of the few NASCAR drivers that hails from California.
Though he has one NASCAR Cup win, Mears says that his greatest accomplishment is still his 24 Hours of Daytona win from 2006. He is the first-ever full-time NASCAR driver to win that event, an event in which three drivers team up to run the most laps on a 3.56 mile road course at Daytona International Speedway.
Mears struggled initially in the NASCAR Cup series with Chip Ganassi Racing, but has now found a home at Hendrick Motorsports, arguably the best team in Cup racing today. Hendrick Motorsports saw Mears earn his first win, at the Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, the longest race on the Cup circuit.
