A.J. Allmendinger started his racing career in Karts. He won two championships in that series and then chose to enter the Champ Car World Series. He won Rookie of the Year in Champ Cars and continued to excel in the series through the next few years.
Allmendinger made his NASCAR debut in the Craftsman Truck Series in 2006 when Bill Davis Racing hired him to run three races that year. It was announced, after three solid finishes, that A.J. would drive Toyotas full-time in the Cup Series for Red Bull Racing in 2007, the first year that the manufacturer has run in NASCAR’s Busch and Cup Series.
